I'm about to leave the country for almost two months (literally have to get on a plane in a couple hours), so obviously posting will be limited/non-existant. But the other side of that is that when I come back I will have tons of pictures to post from Central America and hopefully a couple from New York.
To celebrate leaving the country, here are vaguely iconic 'merica shots from the road.

King of the Road
North Rim of the Grand Canyon.
I've been seeing a lot of sunrises lately...this one was for sure the most dramatic. The first peak of the sun over the canyon creates the glimpse of the shadows that deepen and change throughout the day.

Light and Rain
Although the stormy weather of the past week in the Southwest had its disadvantages (such as waking up in a wet tent), the advantages were intense cloudscapes and ridiculously epic storms.
Trying to capture lightning in a photograph was very challenging--its hard to tell where to focus, and whether to snap a million pics and hope to get lucky, or go with a long shuttle (also its usually wet).
The first is taken from my parent's deck in Rockville, UT, the last one from the Grand Canyon.

Burning Man
Of the thousands of things that took me delightedly off guard during my first year of burning man was the fact that I found it almost impossible to take photographs. It seems hard to even begin to properly explain, but the actual experience of being there was so overwhelming and raw that to immediately digitize it felt somehow wrong. That being said, I did bring a disposable out with me, and took quite a few pictures during the exodus (which was almost nine hours long yet still somehow fun).
I think next year I will bring a film camera.

Current
I am incredibly behind on blogging (like five posts) but kind of want to post some completely current photos. I arrived in Zion, UT two nights ago, and yesterday went to watch a storm break from Observation Point in the park...
And then later shared a glass of wine on the deck
I'll be around here for two weeks, and am planning trips into Bryce Canyon and the Grand Canyon (and possibly Arches) so hopefully will get lots of good shots. In the meantime I'll be attempting to catch up on older posts.
Santa Cruz Boardwalk
The Boardwalk is definitely a place I never fully appreciated until this summer. Turns out its not just for tourists...running around on a Monday or Tuesday catching dollar rides and greasy food is actually pretty fun.
